Work Sample #1
Name of Assignment: Unit 1 Lab 5 Optional Project
Subject: Tech 102
Facilitator/Teacher: Ms. Jeanie
Description of Work/Assignment:
This was a supplemental project during the segment of this class where we worked with Snap! coding software. For our final project of this segment we were tasked to make a basic Sprite-chase game and an optional, more complex game if we so choose. I chose to make a game of Pong
Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why?
I feel this assignment addresses the Financial, Economic, and Business Literacy skill. It may seem odd, but this simple game is very relevant to this skill. Many jobs are being taken over by technology, therefore one of the most valuable jobs these days are ones requiring extensive computer and coding skills.
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why?
I am most proud of the smoothness of the paddle. It took a lot of trial and error and different coding combinations to get it how I wanted it.
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment?
As I said, coding is very valuable in today's job market. Therefore, all the practice I can get in these skills will therefore aid me in financial, economic, and business literacy.
What was most difficult about completing this task?
It was most difficult to follow the instructions, as they were rather vague. Snap!'s instructions had never been very clear, but this last project was even more so to make it harder.
How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do differently?
If I could start over I'd want to pay more attention to detail. I think I could have added more control over the paddle as well as some creative decorations or backgrounds.
How does this relate to what you have learned in the past?
I've done a lot of coding over the years and the skills and familiarity I've developed were certainly applicable to this project.
How can you apply this to future learning?
While I'm familiar with coding, Snap! is different than a lot of other platforms I've used. I think broadening my technological horizons, so to speak, will be beneficial for my future learning.
