Work Sample #2
Name of Assignment: Logo Graphic Design
Subject: Geometry
Facilitator/Teacher: Ms. Marsh
Description of Work/Assignment:
We were told to write our names using certain geometrical elements that we'd studied beforehand.
Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why?
I feel this assignment addresses the Thinking and Problem Solving 21st Century Skill. This is because, as part of the project, we were tasked with fitting angles and degrees into the lines of our names. This took quite a lot of thinking- as well as problem solving- because of this assignments more open-ended nature.
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why?
I am most proud of the design I chose for the 'E'. It seems small, but I think it looks cool and was a clever way to include an angle bisector.
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment?
This assignment developed my Thinking and Problem Solving Skills because deciding how to include all the mandatory elements required a kind of thinking I hadn't experienced before.
What was most difficult about completing this task?
I think the most difficult part of this assignment was the transition. By that I mean, because of last year, I was so used to doing everything digitally and submitting it that way as well. For this, I had to print it out and hand it in so just doing it on paper might have been easier.
How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do differently?
If I could start over, I would do it on paper and I'd add more letters. I feel like some of the elements are all crammed together on the same line and that bothers me.
How does this relate to what you have learned in the past?
A lot of the elements we were required to include were things that I've learned before, such as perpendicular and parallel lines.
How can you apply this to future learning?
I can use these techniques and rules in my future geometry classes and also math classes in general.
