Work Sample #3
Name of Assignment: Justice-Related Occupation Paper
Subject: AJ 101
Facilitator/Teacher: Professor Ryan Daniels
Description of Work/Assignment:
For this assignment, we were told to write a research paper on a chosen entry-level job in the administration of justice system. I wrote my paper on the career of an entry-level paralegal.
Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why?
I think this assignment addresses my Civic Literacy and Engagement skill. In my paper, I had to make the connection between my chosen profession and the system of government that is the administration of justice.
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why?
I am most proud of my research. I think I got a lot of really good information and communicated it nicely.
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment?
In my research, I did a lot of reading on how law firms work and how they effect the justice system. I think this definitely helped me gain a better understanding of how paralegals participate in government.
What was most difficult about completing this task?
I think the hardest thing was definitely the timeline I set for myself. I did all my research far enough in advance, but I didn't start writing the actual paper until two days before it was due, which was very stressful.
How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do differently?
If I could start over, I would start writing way sooner. I think giving myself more time to proofread and revise would really improve the final product in the long run.
How does this relate to what you have learned in the past?
I recently participated in a mock trial program and I've taken classes in government before. This definitely related to that because I was able to learn about a new facet of that system.
How can you apply this to future learning?
My tentative future plans at the moment are to go to law school. I think this paper and the expertise I gained from it will definitely be applicable should I continue down that path.
