Work Sample #2
Name of Assignment: Programa de Intercambio Cultural
Subject: Spanish 2
Facilitator/Teacher: Profe Ají
Description of Work/Assignment:
In this assignment, we were asked to get into groups to research a cultural exchange program with a Spanish-speaking country. The entire project was to be done in Spanish and my group and I chose Cuba in partnership with an exchange program from Habana University.
Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why?
I feel that this assignment addresses the Global Awareness skill. Though this project focused on a specific exchange program in Cuba, we had to research a lot of other aspects about the country including important places, currency, intricacies of the language, and forms of government.
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why?
I am most proud of my map slide! I spent a lot of time and worked really hard to pinpoint all the important locations on the map and formatting the information about each place.
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment?
As I mentioned before, we had to do a lot of general research on the country and the language for this assignment. This allowed me to gain a better understanding of this foreign country despite having never been there.
What was most difficult about completing this task?
I think the hardest part was definitely the presentation. We had a lot of information to communicate all in Spanish and none of us were fluent, so it was slow going.
How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do differently?
To improve this project, I would want to practice the presentation more with my group. We made a couple of bad presentation mistakes that I think could definitely have been avoided with more rehearsal.
How does this relate to what you have learned in the past?
Since this is a Spanish 2 class, we had dig through old work and use a lot of old vocabulary that we learned earlier in the quarter or even from last year.
How can you apply this to future learning?
My goal with Spanish is to become fluent, so this will definitely help me. Presenting in Spanish was definitely difficult, but it was great speaking practice for future conversations and presentations.
