Work Sample #4
Name of Assignment: Psychology 100 Weekly Journals
Subject: PSY 100
Facilitator/Teacher: Dr. Fox (Supervisor Ms. Lindsay)
Description of Work/Assignment:
Every week we are assigned a weekly journal on the chapter we read that week. It's our choice how we write about the chapter, I choose to use a memorization tactic taught to us at the beginning of class that involves summarizing the chapter in our own words.
Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why?
I think that this assignment addresses the Self-Direction skill. How we write each journal is entirely up to us, we get to decide which method will be most beneficial for our learning.
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why?
I am most proud of the amount of work I put into a lot of my journals. I'm very proud of myself whenever I manage to exceed my own expectations for the journals.
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment?
This assignment helps me develop my 21st Century Skill by allowing me to experiment and decide for myself the learning tools I most prefer and work best for me.
What was most difficult about completing this task?
The hardest part about this is, coincidentally, meeting the word minimum. I tend to cut out a lot of information my mind deems unnecessary, making my journals seem skimpy sometimes.
How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do differently?
If I could redo some of these journals, I would want to review the textbook chapter rather than just my notes. As I said, I tend to cut out some information that might be important and/or helpful with my word count issue.
How does this relate to what you have learned in the past?
I've had a lot of chances to summarize things in the many, many english classes one has to take in a standardized education, so this part of the skill is nothing new to me.
How can you apply this to future learning?
Many, many english classes or not, I'm also sure to take more and use the skills they've taught me during the rest of my education. Summarizing is an incredibly valuable skill that I can definitely apply to future learning.
