Work Sample #3
Name of Assignment: Coke and Mentos Lab Experiment
Subject: Chemistry
Facilitator/Teacher: Mrs. Shirkhodai (Mrs. S)
Description of Work/Assignment:
We were put into groups and asked to bring soda and mentos to class so we could test the mentos in soda reaction.
Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why?
This assignment addresses Interpersonal Skills because each member of the group had to get a part of the materials we would need and we needed to work together to coordinate that.
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why?
I am most proud of how my team persevered after our experiment went wrong. We still completed the lab and measured our evidence despite it being skewed.
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment?
I developed this 21st Century Skill by practicing reaching out to my group outside of school to communicate and avoid complications.
What was most difficult about completing this task?
During our experiment, something went wrong and we had to complete the lab while missing a vital variable.
How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do differently?
If I could start over, I would have bought extra materials as a plan B so we could redo the failed experiment.
How does this relate to what you have learned in the past?
I've worked in many group projects before this and this assignment helped me develop on those experiences.
How can you apply this to future learning?
I can apply this to future learning by using this as an example for how to communicate with future groups.
